What is a Habitat ReStore?

  • A Habitat ReStore accepts new and used building materials from individuals, retailers, businesses and contractors. These good quality items are sold to the general public at a fraction of retail prices, with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.

Is ReStore open to the public?

  • YES! Anyone and everyone can donate and shop at ReStore!

How often does ReStore get new materials?

  • Daily! We receive donations every day that we are open.

How are items priced at ReStore?

  • Brand new items are priced 50% OFF of retail value, other items, depending on condition, are priced between 50% - 90% off retail value.

Can we negotiate prices with ReStore ?

  • No, but  MCHfH  ReStore discounts items monthly using a systematic mark down program that discounts most items 15% each month. Please note that not all items are part of the monthly "mark down."

Do you use the donated materials to build Habitat Homes?

  • No. The materials are sold in the Habitat ReStore, with the proceeds of the store going to Habitat for Humanity.

How do I donate?

  • We will accept the following merchandise, in good condition, up to one hour before closing.  Please phone the ReStore at (906)249-4416 if your item is not on this list but may be one that we could use.    
  • Appliance:  In good working order.   Sorry, NO dishwashers. 
  • Architectural:  Columns, antiques, windows, mantelpieces, etc.  
  • Cabinets:  Individual pieces or full sets, kitchen or bathroom.  Must have all doors and drawers
  • Countertops:   Minimal chips or damage.  
  • Flooring:  Useable quantities only 
    • Carpet and padding- no visible wear and tear, and no stains or odors.  
    • Hardwood/parquet flooring- Must be free of rot.  Vinyl tile, sheet vinyl and linoleum- new only.  Ceramic tile.
  •  Doors:
    • Pre-hung or door slabs
    • Exterior or interior- No rot, cracks or missing pane
    • Entryway units
    • Sliding glass- must have all tracking, no cracked or foggy glass
  • Electrical:  Must be in useable condition
  • Hardware:  Complete sets of door hardware, hinges, etc.  Any quantity of nails, screws, etc.  No rust  
  • Plumbing:
    • Sinks-  All types of kitchen and bathroom sinks (no rust) 
    • Shower enclosure- All components 
    • Faucets- unused, still in the box only. 
    • Miscellaneous plumbing hardware 
    • Toilet- Very clean and in good working condition, white only 
    • NO Hot water heaters
  • Lumber:
    • Dimensional- 4 ft. lengths or longer, treated or untreated 
    • Sheet goods- 1/2 sheets or larger of particle board, pressboard plywood, paneling, etc.  
    • Trim and molding- 4 ft. lengths or longer 
  • Lighting:  Complete and in working order
  • Storm Doors:  Complete, with all screens, and tracking or framing 
  • Windows:
    • Double hung
    • Picture and bay- complete units with all sashes, no rot or cracks
    • Casement
    • Thermal pane only, no single pane
    • Metal and wood screens 
  • Roofing Materials:  New shingles, rolls of roofing material 
  • Gutters:  Full pieces with no rust or damage
  • Drywall:  Full or half sheets 
  • Vents:  (Clean) - Floor, Ceiling, Return 
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Full Rolls of Wallpaper
    • Shutters (interior and exterior)
    • Hand and Power Tools
    • Wood
    • Furniture
    • Thermostats
    • Ceiling fans (complete)
    • New insulation
    • Framed mirror
    • Household  items
    • 4 ft. and over lengths of pipe/PVC/metal/copper
  • All donations subject to space availability. The ReStore Manager has the discretion to refuse any item that may not be in saleable condition.  

Do you pick up items?

  • If you are unable to drop your donation off at the ReStore site, please phone us at (906) 249-4416 to schedule a pickup.  The items must be acceptable items as listed in our approved list of donations.  If you have an item that is not listed, please contact us to verify that we are able to accept it.

Do I get a tax receipt for donating?

  • Yes!  Habitat ReStore is part of Habitat for Humanity and a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization. All donations can receive a potential tax deduction.

Can ReStore put a value on the items I donate?

  • No. We cannot place a value on any donations for tax purposes. This is the responsibility of the donor.

Does ReStore take returns?

  • All sales at ReStore are final.  The only exception to this is with appliances. Appliances have a 7 day return policy. Beyond that, we do not accept returns.

Are all ReStore the same?

  • No. Each ReStore is individually operated by the Habitat for Humanity affiliate office in that area. This means they do not all carry the same items, prices, policies, hours, etc.

How do things get done at ReStore ?

  • Volunteers play a vital role in cashiering, donation intake, donation pick-ups, stocking shelves, pricing items, assisting customers, office work, cleaning and so much more!  We simply could not survive without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers.

How do I volunteer?

  • It's easy!  Simply fill out our Volunteer Application and Waiver of Liability forms and return them to our Volunteer Coordinator. A ReStore volunteer's primary responsibility is to greet customers that visit or call the ReStore, answer questions and provide information about the ReStore and about the Habitat affiliate, scheduling donor pickups and communicating pickup schedule with drivers. More specific responsibilities may include: 

    • Greet customers by phone or in person
    • Explain the layout of the ReStore and the range of inventory on hand
    • Escort customers to specific items when appropriate and explain the purchase options
    • Serve as the cashier for sales transactions
    • Coordinate donor calls and donor’s personal requests for donation pick up’s into an effective collection route schedule for use by the Vehicle Driver
    • Support all staff and volunteers Manager with pricing of inventory items
    • Perform such other tasks as may be needed or requested to facilitate a positive customer experience at the ReStore
    • Pick up and/or deliver donations/purchases
